What Tīmata is
Tīmata is a free app for iPhone, Android and the web that walks people leaving prison in Aotearoa New Zealand, their whānau, and support workers through the practical steps of the first 30 days of release. It is built and operated by Sant Limited, a New Zealand company, as a civic contribution. There is no commercial business model. Use of Tīmata is free and will remain free.
Best efforts, not guarantees
Tīmata works hard to keep the information current: phone numbers, dollar amounts, eligibility rules, addresses. Sources are reviewed regularly and the date each piece of content was last verified is visible in an internal data-health view. But government departments restructure pages, programmes change, and Tīmata is a tiny civic project, not a 24/7 newsroom.
Always confirm time-critical or money-critical details with the source Tīmata points you to before acting. If something looks wrong, tell Tīmata at help@timata.co.nz and it will be fixed.
Not legal, medical, or financial advice
Tīmata gives you general guidance, phone numbers, and what-to-say scripts. It is not, and cannot replace, advice from a lawyer, doctor, social worker, or financial adviser. For anything specific to your situation, talk to one of those people.
No warranty
Tīmata is provided "as is." No warranties are made about uptime, accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Because Tīmata is supplied free of charge for non-commercial purposes, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sant Limited's total liability arising out of or related to your use of Tīmata is limited to NZD $0, in line with the no-charge nature of the service.
Acceptable use
Don't try to abuse the service. Specifically:
- Don't attempt to enumerate session URLs.
- Don't probe the service for security weaknesses without coordinating with Tīmata first.
If you find a bug or potential security issue, please contact Tīmata at help@timata.co.nz rather than disclosing publicly. It will be handled in good faith.
Privacy
How your information is handled is covered separately in the privacy policy. Short version: anonymous session, no account. A name or an email only if you choose to give one. Your phone number is not collected.
Changes
These terms may be updated occasionally. The bottom of this page shows the date of the most recent change. Continued use of Tīmata after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law. Any dispute will be heard in New Zealand courts.
